Opossums are very well-known in urban areas. They are reliant on the food that is discarded by humans in order to survive. In rural areas, they are able to find other sources of food and do not need to scavenge. Once they get into your yard they will trash your garden and get into your garbage cans. They most successful way to make sure that these critters do not become a nuisance is to close off all entry points to your property. If you find that they are getting into your garden, you can set up traps to catch them. Traps are available from hardware stores or online. There are also lethal traps available, but killing Pompano Beach opossums are illegal in most states. This means that they will not be as easy to get your hands on.



Types of lethal traps
• Body traps. Body traps are set up outside of holes where the Florida opossums live. When they enter or exit the hole, the trap will slam closed on their body. This trap doesn’t always kill the animal, it might just be stuck there until it bleeds to death or dies of hunger.
• Snap trap. A snap trap needs to be baited. As soon as the opossum removes the bait, the trap will slam closed and break its neck. The problem with this is that other animals could also be caught in this trap.
• Poison. Poison can be placed in any area that you think Pompano Beach opossums feed. As they are omnivores, they will eat anything that they can find. You can put the poison in some fruit and leave it out for them. Rat poison can be used to kill an opossum. Make sure that you place the poison out of the reach of your pets or other animals.

Other options
Killing a Florida opossum is not legal in most states and might get you into a lot of trouble. There are easier ways to get rid of these pests. You can humanely trap them and relocate them to a more desirable area.

Most humane option
It is believed, that the most humane way to kill a Pompano Beach opossum is to shoot it. This means that you can be sure that the animal will not suffer. Even though it is not legal to shoot an opossum, it may be your only option.
