Pompano Beach Wildlife Education: How To Get A Dead Animal Out Of Your Car
One of the only things worse than finding a rodent living in your car is discovering a dead animal inside. You won’t be able to tempt the animal out of your vehicle, like you would with a stray cat, and it won’t leave of its own accord. A dead animal will also cause foul smells as the body decomposes and attract flies and other pests. Because of this, you want to get the animal out of your car as soon as possible.
Finding The Dead Animal
The first step to removing the dead animal from your car is finding it. You will want to grab a flashlight and some gloves. When finding the dead animal, let your nose guide you. Your car will most likely smell but the area with the carcass should smell stronger. Figure out where the smell is the strongest and begin your search in that area. After you have narrowed down the possibilities, it is time to look in every nook or cranny. If you don’t know what type of dead animal is in your car, you need to look everywhere since some animals, like mice, are incredibly small and can fit nearly anywhere.
Tips For Finding It
In most cases, you won’t be lucky enough to find the dead animal right away. If that is the case, consider turning on your car with the air running to see if the smell gets worse. If it does, this is a good indication that the dead animal is in the air system or close to the system circulating it. Don’t forget to turn your car back off before continuing your search. You can also look at various components like the air filter to see if they are damaged in any way or have droppings. Consider removing seats or floor mats along with any other component that is removable to get a better look. If you can’t find the dead animal on your own, hire a professional to help you look.
Actually Removing It
Once you find the dead animal, it is time to remove it. Never touch it directly. Instead, wear gloves and put on a mask. Put the animal in a garbage bag and do the same with any maggots or other bugs there. Consider double bagging the carcass. Consult your local regulations to make sure you can dispose of it with your normal garbage.
Afterwards, you have to clean the area thoroughly. Use a sanitizing agent and an odor remover. God options include an enzymatic wash, baking soda with water, bleach, and an ozone generator. You might need to use air freshener or drive with your windows open for a while so the smell can dissipate.
